PROJECT DETAILS
As AIESEC in JKUAT and the Healthy and Happy 2014 interns, we realized that many kids in Kenya do not have access to proper healthcare, and therefore suffer diseases that may have direct impact on their physical and intellectual growth. There is need for a proper check, diagnosis and treatment, which can only be achieved through proper health education. Each week of the project has 2 parts: 3 days of the week you will be teaching about: -Hygiene classes -Sanitation classes -Waste disposal -Nutrition classes -HIV & AIDS -Malaria -Tuberculosis -Common infections Then for the remaining 2 days you will be testing the children on: Visual (Snellen chart, Ishihara Color Test) Heart and respiratory rate Nutritional status assessment (upper arm circumference and BMI)
ROLES & RESPONSIBLITIES
As a volunteer, you will:
- A health education class on personal hygiene, sanitation and waste disposal and management mechanisms.
- Health check-ups that include: physical examination, nutritional status assessment, visual acuity, heart and respiratory rate.
- Write reports on the data collected and make recommendations.
- Look for health partners for the project. It is an intense program as every week has a new school or community that we as AIESEC in JKUAT support.
LOGISTICS
- Transport: AIESEC will pick you up at the airport, but transport to work will not be provided
- Visa: Yes, online
- Housing and Food: Provided (2 meals)
- Additional Fee by Host Country: Yes, For this project, other than accommodation ($212 per month), transport ($20 per month) and airport pick-up fees ($30), there is a TN fee of $60 which will cater for the provision of first aid kits and medical supplies to be donated to the schools and communities that you will be working in.
