Ahora bien, dicho de manera más simple, el líder es la inspiración y el director de la acción. Él o ella es la persona en el grupo que posee la combinación de personalidad y habilidades de liderazgo que hacen que otros quieran seguir su dirección. Pero, ¿sabes cuáles son realmente esas habilidades que lo definen? Si no lo sabes, te encuentras en el lugar correcto, pues gracias a Daniel Wang, creador de Loopring Protocol y su publicación en la revista Forbes, podemos hacer mención a lo que él considera las 8 cualidades esenciales que definen a un buen líder.

1.     ENTUSIASMO SINCERO

Hace mención a que el entusiasmo y la estimulación que se tiene para alcanzar los objetivos no debe ser falso bajo ninguna circunstancia. Es por eso que cuando los líderes son sinceramente entusiastas y apasionados, se vuelve algo contagioso para el resto del equipo.

2.     INTEGRIDAD

Independientemente de que sea otorgando el crédito adecuado por los logros, reconociendo errores o priorizando la seguridad y la calidad, los grandes líderes exhiben integridad en todo momento. Ellos tienen que hacer lo correcto, aún si eso no es lo mejor para el proyecto que se está realizando en el momento o incluso el resultado final.

3.     GRANDES HABILIDADES DE COMUNICACIÓN

Un líder ha de motivar, instruir y disciplinar a las personas de las que están a cargo, ya que no pueden lograr ninguna de estas cosas si no son comunicadores muy hábiles. Además de esto, la mala comunicación puede conducir a malos resultados. También es importante recordar que escuchar es una parte integral de la comunicación.

4.     LEALTAD

Los mejores líderes son aquellos que entienden que la verdadera lealtad es recíproca. Debido a esto, expresan esa lealtad de maneras tangibles que benefician al miembro de sus equipos, garantizando que todos los miembros del equipo tengan la capacitación y los recursos para hacer su trabajo.

5.     TOMA DE DECISIONES

Un buen líder no solo toma decisiones debido a su cargo, porque ellos están dispuestos a asumir el riesgo de tomar decisiones. Toman estas decisiones y se arriesgan sabiendo que si las cosas no funcionan, tendrán que rendir cuentas ante todo.

6.     COMPETENCIA GERENCIAL

             Demasiadas organizaciones intentan crear líderes a partir de personas que simplemente son buenas en sus trabajos. Para ser claros, aquellos que emergen como muy buenos trabajadores a menudo tienen cualidades importantes. Ellos son los que tienen una sólida comprensión de los productos y servicios de la empresa u organización, así como también entienden los objetivos, procesos y procedimientos de la empresa.

7.     EMPODERAMIENTO

Un buen líder tiene fe en su capacidad para capacitar y desarrollar a los empleados que están debajo de ellos. Debido a esto, tienen la voluntad de empoderar a aquellos a quienes conducen para que actúen de manera autónoma. Muchas fuentes dicen que esto proviene de confiar en que los miembros de su equipo están completamente a la altura de los desafíos que enfrentan.

8.     CARISMA

En pocas palabras, es más probable que las personas sigan el ejemplo de las personas que les gustan. Los mejores líderes son cercanos, accesibles y amigables. Porque de esta forma es que muestran sincero cuidado por los demás, y así logran conectar de una forma más directo con sus miembros y/o compañeros de equipo.

I once heard an anecdote about a boy who said that his greatest fear was flying on an airplane. Only his family and his closest friends knew about it, since it really was a fairly relevant fear. However, in his early years as a student, he once saw one of our advertisements, and was so interested that he decided to find out more about it. Some time after being contacted, he began to understand and analyze the situation as to why his interest in carrying out the experience was greater than the fear of getting on a plane.

And it is being completely honest, doing something to generate an impact, something as simple as volunteering for a positive change in another city and during the holiday season, it is difficult to say no. Despite this, he was procrastinating the process a bit to see if he could control his fear, but in the end he could not, at that moment his fear was greater and he decided to refrain from living the experience. He commented that months later he began to wonder what it would have been like to have accepted.

It wasn’t until a couple of more years, after therapies and a new mind-set, that he dared to really live the full experience that AIESEC was giving him. Now he is the first person to start promoting what we do as an organization and getting the message across of how it is possible that something as small as volunteering can have a huge impact.

It is said that success is achieved by taking small steps, and as an author named Jack Canfield says, ” everything you’ve always wanted is on the other side of fear .” It is for this reason and for this little anecdote that we invite you to get out of your comfort zone and dare to live with us that adventure that perhaps can fill your life with color again. Because precisely what scares you is usually what helps you expand and in this way is how you will get out of your comfort zone.

La entrada Un vuelo que me cambió la vida se publicó primero en AIESEC in Spain.

Estas fueron una las cosas que hizo que Miguel Sugrañez, un estudiante de Medicina de 22 años, decidiera tomar esta experiencia con nosotros y, así, sumar en una comunidad de Kenia siendo un voluntario para un cambio. Él nos comentaba que normalmente, los proyectos con AIESEC duran alrededor de unas 6 semanas, y el suyo no era una excepción. Su experiencia se inició en verano por temas académicos, aunque tenía mucha flexibilidad ya que en verdad se podría hacer en cualquier momento del año.

“El proyecto estaba dividido en dos partes: las primeras tres semanas, trabajé en una clínica semi privada, llevada por la iglesia: Saint Scholastica Uzima Milele. El trabajo consistía en ir de un sector a otro ayudando a los profesionales en lo que hiciera falta, aprender lo máximo posible de los profesionales y observar mucho, pues los voluntarios no suelen realizar tareas de la clínica que involucren a los pacientes o a su salud. Las otras tres semanas, fui voluntario médico en Mathare o Kibera, que son los barrios pobres más grandes de áfrica. Yo decidí colaborar con los niños de los colegios que trabajaban con AIESEC, negocié con los hospitales y conseguí medicinas y suplementos alimenticios para los pequeños.”, nos comentaba.

Miguel también nos remarcó que durante esas 6 semanas, se trabaja en paralelo con otros voluntarios de AIESEC pertenecientes al mismo proyecto u a otros quizá menos relacionados. “ Cuando iba a las escuelas siempre me quedaba todo el día ahí para ayudar en lo que fuera a los voluntarios de AIESEC y estar un rato compartiendo con los niños”.

Además, Miguel realizó un torneo de fútbol para recaudar dinero y trabajó como médico de primeros auxilios en el mismo. De esta forma nos hizo saber que siempre hay trabajos variados durante la experiencia de voluntariado, simplemente no es una cosa fija. “Dependiendo de vuestra voluntad, podéis tener un impacto inmenso en el país y en su gente”, agregaba.=

Finalmente, quiso añadir que ir de voluntariado no solo representa trabajo, ya que también se tiene libertad para realizar algunos viajes de turismo los fines de semana o en los espacios libres laborales. Nos hizo énfasis en que para él, un voluntariado no es una obligación, si no una responsabilidad. De esta forma, el se convirtió en un promotor para que todo aquél pueda tener la oportunidad de vivir la enorme experiencia que él tuvo, porque estas cosas se recuerdan toda la vida.

Moved by the leader Greta Thunberg and her “Fridays for Future” movement, it has been one of the most massive demonstrations for an environmental issue. Young people fighting for their future and for their present. Banners and banners covered the streets: “Climate Justice”, “Climate emergency”, “Time is over”, “People argue, nature acts” …

It seems incredible that with the reaction of our planet to everything that is happening, no urgent effective solutions are being sought.

That is why today more than ever we must realize that our generation is key and more than necessary. Our work begins here and has a very long journey ahead. Starting with education, leaders and politicians. The unawareness of our actions, of the causes and consequences of everything we buy, consume and do is very important in how our future will be.

Today in the world there are young people leading actions and organizations for change . Organizations that have become global and that, with little steps like these, will be able to reach something much bigger and more important. “Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And changes are coming. Whether they like it or not, ”Greta Thunberg remarked at the UN climate change summit. Changes that will be enormous if we see other realities, other ways of living that impact us and guide us towards a healthier, more “original” way of life. Like some 600 young Spaniards who this 2019 have decided to take their step and go to impact and live life to change theirs and the one around them thanks to volunteer experiences andpractices around the world. 600 young leaders, with a passion for their future.

That is why the decisions we make today, the reflections we make and the thoughts we have are the fruit of our own life, of our own history. We have to be clear that all this will be part of the reality of tomorrow. And that only with small things the change will exist.

=One of the experiences that most marked him was just arriving at what would be his home for six weeks, Salvador de Bahia: “On my first day of the project, the members of AIESEC in Salvador de Bahia accompanied me from my home to the NGO with the that was working. They told me a thousand times that I could not go with my mobile on the street since both my house and the NGO were located in the most disadvantaged and dangerous parts of the city. So, we started a 2:30-hour journey crossing Salvador -which I would have to do alone every day for six weeks- with paper and pen in hand to draw and learn the route ”, she explains”

“The next morning, after a tiring and hard day for the first few times, I woke up in plenty of time for my daily excursion. I took the first bus, waited more than 40 minutes for the second and finally got on. Confident of myself and trying not to seem lost -another advice from the members of AIESEC- the stops went by and by. ‘ Tall gray building with windows and it’s your stop‘I kept repeating myself. But suddenly, I recognized the building far away and saw that we were not heading for it. I tried to speak with my “Portuguese-Spanish” with the driver but it was impossible and I decided to get off to the next one. My first reaction was to get my mobile phone, google maps and in less than 10 minutes to be in the NGO. I got stressed out, I thought ‘why does this occur to me’ and tried to find solutions. They had told me not to do it if I didn’t want to fear for my safety. I walked a few meters lost thinking until I ended up in a store that looked like a pharmacy and I looked at my mobile secretly between  medications. Five streets and you arrive. Come on, you can . Yes, that morning I arrived at the NGO and the bus never made a mistake again. ” 

Like her, and like many other volunteers, when you venture out to experience the country, you see everything in a different way. You learn to see things as part of the experience, without stress and worry. Everything goes its way and you discover parts of yourself that you didn’t know or even existed. You learn to discover, love, break, miss, value … You learn in an environment drastically different from yours. And that, it is very very difficult to do it in your comfort zone .

La entrada 4 lecciones de vida que aprendí durante mi voluntariado se publicó primero en AIESEC in Spain.

If you have ever wondered what volunteering consists of, the first thing you should know is that it is not only a work done that does not have economic retribution. Because being a volunteer goes beyond that, it is about contributing and experiencing the impact you are making in real time. It’s about seeing with your own eyes that YES, you can make a difference in the world.

Being a Global Volunteer is an intercultural experience for young people who want to obtain personal development and leave a positive impact on the world, because no matter where you want to direct that contribution, the change and growth that you will be generating for society and for yourself will be big. 

That is why we decided to tell you a little about the experience of one of our participants who decided to contribute his bit. The whole experience begins when he arrives at his destination, an NGO in Turkey in which he fulfilled his work teaching English to refugee children aged between 10 years. Although he was in a short period of 6 weeks abroad, during that time he was able to observe and meet new realities and cultures, as well as the beauty contained in its museums, mosques and palaces. 

He told us that perhaps the fact that another language is spoken (in this case, Turkish) and that the majority of its population does not know how to speak another language, makes the issue of communication a little difficult, but at the same time it is key to real immersion in the country. It is a great opportunity for young people to travel to countries where restaurants and transportation are up to five times cheaper, as it allows you to enjoy and learn more with the other volunteers who are with you.

During his experience, he wasn’t the only one contributing. Other volunteers were also taking the role of a teacher to dedicate themselves to small groups made up of two or three students. In this way, each of them had a certain number of children under their care, and in turn they could comfortably choose the method with which they would teach the subject. Something that sounds very small, but that generated a great satisfaction for him since on different occasions his students gave him flowers and drawings, as well as lots of laughs and hugs. 

We can realize that we as young leaders can make a positive impact in the world. We know that perhaps taking this step can be very scary for many, and that being a volunteer is not easy, but overcoming challenges is what makes it valuable. 

Therefore, you can be part of those young people in the world who are choosing to carry out projects to generate positive change, where you will also have the opportunity to put much of your knowledge into practice. The world is changed by those people who share the spirit, people who step forward, get involved and decide to become a citizen who contributes positively.

Como otros países alrededor del mundo, el impacto del cambio climático en Costa Rica está incrementando. Localizado en América Central, es un país muy pequeño (51.060  km²) y está expuesto a grandes variaciones climáticas. Con costas hacia el océano Pacífico y mar Caribe, podemos identificar varios tipos de climas, como ecuatorial, tropical y tropical húmedo.

Toda esta diversidad hace que Costa Rica sea vea afectada por el cambio climático de distintas maneras. No es posible predecir exactamente qué fenómenos ni en qué intensidad pueden ocurrir, pero en general, América Central se ve crecientemente afectada por huracanes, fuertes lluvias, inundaciones y sequías.

Las áreas de mayor riesgo en Costa Rica son las montañas, manglares y arrecifes; al igual que los bosques en áreas cálidas (como los bosques costeros del atlántico y el pacífico). En general, los bosques tropicales del país están altamente afectados por las altas temperaturas, lo que podría tener consecuencias sociales y ecológicas muy graves.

Para Costa Rica, la agricultura es de extrema importancia por ser una de las principales actividades comerciales, entonces cuándo estos fenómenos comienzan a afectar la productividad, la economía y la vida de millones de personas se ven afectadas. A raíz de estas variaciones, la calidad de vida del país también se ve afectada, empeorando aspectos sociales y el índice de desarrollo.

Para hacer frente a estos problemas, el Gobierno de Costa Rica ha decidido luchar en contra del cambio climático, poniéndolo como una prioridad y las acciones ya se están llevando a cabo. Quizás se preguntan ¿Cómo?, a través de inversiones en energías limpias como hidroeléctrica, geotérmica, solar y eólica, las cuales han ayudado a Costa Rica  a ser el primer país en vías de desarrollo en producir 100% de energías renovables. Particularmente, cerca del 98% de la electricidad del país vinieron de fuentes verdes en 2016, usando electricidad libre de carbono por más de 250 días en 2016.

En los últimos años, el gobierno ha construido plantas hidroeléctricas, como la planta Reventazón, e invirtió en energía eólica en los Santos y Santa Ana. También tienen plantas geotérmicas en algunos de los volcanes como Miravalles y Rincón de la Vieja.

En AIESEC, también nos preocupamos por el cambio climático, particularmente en bosques y quisimos tomar acción. Aprovechando la ventaja de que Costa Rica es el primer país en firmar un pacto nacional para los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de 2030, desarrollamos el proyecto NATURATICA, dónde voluntarios tienen la misión de reforestar bosques secundarios en San José, la capital, y en Guanacaste, un estado que realmente necesita de esta ayuda. También estos voluntarios trabajan con comunidades indígenas, enseñando cómo mitigar los impactos del cambio climático.

Creemos que hay una necesidad real de ayudar a mitigar estos efectos al mismo tiempo de crear conciencia en la población para que sean capaces de generar acciones para detener esta problemática. También creemos que el cambio climático afecta a una proporción muy grande de la población, y que todos podemos aportar para evitar los efectos de una peor manera.

Colombia is a tropical country surrounded by two oceans (Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean) and the Amazon, a luxury that makes this nation a resource of life for the rest of the world, where there is a great diversity of ecosystems and natural resources.

What about the weather?

However, this natural heritage is fragile and prone to modification due to the effects of climate change, since species have a limited capacity to adapt to changes in the climate. For every degree Celsius that the temperature increases by 10% of the species could have a higher risk of extinction, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations (IPCC, for its acronym in English). In addition, the effects of climate change have growing economic and social repercussions for the inhabitants of Colombia, who are affected by phenomena such as increased frequency of floods, rising sea levels, desertification of soils, loss of corals, etc. Detailed information on the impacts of climate change is available at the Ministry of the Environment and the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) .

What challenges does climate change present us?

Faced with this great challenge and as responsible for the protection of a wide biodiversity and one of the lungs of the world, “The Amazon”, Colombia has signed the Paris Agreement within the framework of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change ( COP 21), committing to reduce 20% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and, if it receives more international funding, reduce it by up to 30%. Although the country is only responsible for 0.46% of global emissions, it is estimated that, if measures are not taken, emissions could increase by around 50% in the next 13 years. To achieve these emission reduction objectives and at the same time prepare Colombia for the effects of climate change, the government has launched a National Climate Change Policy with several strategic lines of action. However, this challenge requires collective action that integrates all of society, governments, city councils, companies, the financial sector, civil society and, especially, the citizens themselves. Together we can make a difference.

All this diversity causes Brazil to be affected in various ways due to these changes. It is not possible to say what phenomena may occur, ranging from tornadoes, floods to destruction of plantations, with increasing temperatures or rains.

For Brazil, agriculture is extremely important and one of the main commercial activities, so when phenomena that affect this productivity occur, it directly affects the economy and the lives of millions of people. With such variations, the quality of life in the country is also affected, worsening social aspects and the development index.

We see in the material of the Brazilian news portal G1 that, “In the Amazon rainforest, which occupies almost half of the national territory, global warming should also increase the occurrence of extreme weather events in the east of the region and more floods in the west. The study evaluated the projections of 35 computer simulations for the Amazonian climate and mapped the most likely impacts of climate change in the region against a relatively pessimistic scenario in which CO2 emissions continue to grow wildly.

In addition to the Amazon region in the country there are other biomes that are also affected, such as the “Pantanal”, “Cerrado” and “Mata Atlântica”

The main impacts due to climate change in Brazil are:

– The reduction of water resources

– semi-arid vegetation will probably be replaced by typical arid region vegetation

– Probably the extinction of species.

– The decrease in groundwater

– The impact on the sea level and, consequently, on the mangroves

– Between 38 and 45% of “closed” plants are at risk of extinction and the temperature rises by 1.7 ° C

– Increased drought

– The conversion of forests into crops affects the climate by altering the regional albedo and latent heat flux, causing additional temperature rise in the summer

– The loss of biodiversity

– The increase in temperature and the decrease in water in the soil will lead to sabanization in the eastern region

There is a real need for projects that help mitigate these effects together with the awareness of the population so that they can carry out the actions that are within their reach. Climate change has a much higher proportion, but if we all do our part and help, we can prevent all these problems from spreading in a worse way.
