El verano pasado tenía muy claras dos cosas, quería trabajar en algo relacionado con mi carrera, quería hacer prácticas, y quería hacerlas en una start-up. Soy estudiante de empresariales, y siempre me ha llamado el mundo de la emprendeduría y las start-ups, y quería conocer en primera mano que es una start-up. Finalmente fui seleccionada después de pasar por varios procesos de selección, iba a trabajar en una empresa con menos de 2 años de vida y en la que éramos 8 trabajadores. La experiencia me cambió completamente, Porque trabajar en una Start Up NO es lo mismo que ir ya en una empresa tradicional, no vas a hacer lo mismo y te aporta cosas que ni en la carrera ni en un trabajo de rutina vas a ver.

• De la reactividad a la proactividad

Lo primero que me cautivó fue la ambición que se respiraba, mezclado con innovación y creatividad. constantemente ponerte retos, a nivel personal y a nivel empresa, marcarte un objetivo conseguirlo e ir a por el siguiente, crecer y crecer más. Trabajando en una Start Up no valen las quejas. Pasas de estar todo el dia con el “esto no sale por el otro”, “esto no va a funcionar” “hoy no tengo el dia” por una actitud de “que puedo hacer YO para que las cosas salgan?” y de vamos a tomar acciones.

• Adaptarse o morir

Como si de darwin fuera la cosa. En una Start Up estás aprendiendo todo el rato, no hay eso de la rutina que te vas a encontrar en muchas posiciones de las grandes empresas. Esta todo por inventar y hacer y se tiene que inventar y hacer. Trabajar en una start-up es un reto. Eres una pieza clave para el desarrollo de la actividad de esa empresa. Desde el dia uno y el minuto uno empecé a tener responsabilidades y oportunidades que en una empresa normal tardaría meses en poder tener. Sales de tu zona de confort cada día, porque una vez dominas y controlas algo, un nuevo reto llega y la adaptación es un aspecto clave para el desarrollo profesional, personal y de la Start Up. Cada dia es un dia nuevo, olvidate de la rutina y sal a fuera preparado por cualquier cosa que te pueda venir

• El equipo lo es todo

El pequeño equipo con el que vas a estar trabajando va a ser el pilar principal para conseguir que todo vaya bien. Cada persona es esencial para el desarrollo de la empresa, si uno falla el resto lo sufre. La confianza y compenetración van a ser habilidades esenciales para que todo fluya en el ambiente de trabajo. Aprendes y descubres la diferencia entre trabajar en grupo y trabajar en equipo. Lo mejor de todo es  que a diferencia de empresas más grandes y tradicionales, con el tiempo tu equipo se convierte en tu familia, más que compañeros de trabajo.

• Multitasking es el camino

En una Start Up normalmente no hay suficiente gente para cubrir todas las tareas lo que implica que vas a tocar muchos temas distintos. Mi job description era muy variada y hacía tareas muy distintas, al principio iba muy perdida, pero con el tiempo agradecí tener varias responsabilidades y saber compaginarlas. Pude trabajar en áreas tan diferentes como las finanzas, atención al cliente o marketing, y cosas que nunca me habría imaginado y que creía que nunca serían lo mío, y esto me ayudó a conocer que es lo que realmente me gusta y que se me da bien. Enserio crees que solo vas a aprender de lo tuyo?

• Optimizar recursos/tareas

Es difícil describir el ambiente que se respira, pero es algo muy diferente y que nunca había vivido antes. Te obliga a estar todo el rato pensando en formas distintas de hacer las cosas, como poder mejorar y hacerlo. ¿Como puedo hacerlo de manera más rápida, menos costosa y sin perder efectividad? Estar dentro de una Start Up te ayuda a pensar fuera de la caja para encontrar soluciones a la realidad de la situación que a veces puede que falten recursos para

• Equivocarte es positivo

Aprendí la importancia de saber equivocarte. Es imposible no cometer errores, puedes cometer más o menos, pero somos humanos y no podemos controlarlo todo, y a veces te equivocas. Durante mis prácticas aprendí a verlo como algo positivo, como un aprendizaje y así la próxima vez no hacerlo bien, sino mejor.

• Multiculturalidad

Eso de trabajar solo con gente de tu país está acabando, las empresas se abren al mundo ya que todo coge una perspectiva global y la visión a largo medio largo plazo acostumbra a ser esta también. Por lo tanto, no es raro tener gente de lugares diferentes del mundo allí así como también una habilidad muy importante a empezar a desarrollar cuanto antes mejor

Hay estadísticas que el 50% de los trabajos que haremos aún no están inventados, por eso todas esas cualidades que aprendes en una Start Up te preparan de una manera increíble para tu futuro. Pero imaginalo, trabajar en una Start Up y en el extranjero. Entender las economías del mundo crecientes que en un periodo corto van a estar liderando el mundo como Brasil, India, o Austria y Polonia aquí en Europa. Como la mentalidad de Start Up diría, WHY NOT? ¿A qué esperas pues?;)

La entrada 7 Skills que aprendes trabajando en una Startup se publicó primero en AIESEC in Spain.

A los 19 años me fui, quería ver mundo, esas historias de youtube, de gente viajando y viviendo en otras culturas… tenía que ser yo. Estaba bien ver esos videos pero era el momento de dejar la pantalla y irlo a vivir. Así que encontré AIESEC y su programa de Global Talent de educación. Y me fuí a Indonesia en un internship remunerado de 5 meses para enseñar inglés básico en un jardín de infancia en Padang, en la isla de Sumatra. Fue la mayor y mejor locura que hecho en mi vida.

1. Desaprender, volver a aprender…

Nos creemos super abiertos de mente y alardeamos de ello, pero ¿Qué pasa cuando nos ponen en una situación completamente nueva en una cultura que no es la nuestra? ¿Cuanto de diferente estamos dispuestos a aceptar? Y no me refiero a Europa, que en el fondo no es tan distinto. Una de las experiencias más increíbles es darse cuenta que hay otro mundo dentro de nuestro mismo planeta, y que no es malo ni bueno sino diferente. Que te cambien los conceptos de pobreza, libertad, comunidad, familia y una lista sinfin.

2. Ciudadano de un lugar llamado mundooo!

Esto es la hostia, el darse cuenta que no importa el color de piel, la religión, el lugar de nacimiento porque todos somos humanos y esa cosa que inventamos, las fronteras, dejan de tener sentido. Si, vale, has nacido en un lugar, pero darse cuenta que ese lugar al que llamamos hogar en verdad es mucho más grande que tu piso, casa, barrio, ciudad, país…. y abarca todo un planeta.

3. Valorar lo que tengo

Sí, es muy tópico, pero enserio, cuando te duchas con una cazuela cogiendo agua de un depósito intentando que los bichos no entren en el cubo que después te vas a tirar por encima, impacta. A causa de los terremotos y muchas tuberías rotas el agua se mezcla con la tierra y las bacterias del suelo. Aquí llegas a casa, vas a la ducha, giras la manilla y tienes agua caliente, y si tienes sed pues abres la boca y bebes el agua que cae. Este hecho tan simple se puede hacer en poquisimas partes del mundo y este tipo de experiencias no solo te hacen entenderlo sino sentirlo también.

4. El sentido de comunidad

Enserio, allí eres familia de todo el mundo, pero LITERAL! Os puedo contar las mil y una historias. Recuerdo estar enfermo durante una semana en casa y muchísima gente, del barrio, de AIESEC, de la escuela que daba clases de inglés, vinieron a visitarme y me traían fruta para que mejorara. Vaya, igual que aquí, que estás enfermo y te viene a verte toda tu comunidad (ironía). Otra cosa increíble es la de estar en un restaurante o bar y empezar a hablar con los de la mesa del lado, juntar las mesas y hacer planes para el fin de semana, e ir a una isla paradisiaca por menos 8 euros.  

5. Ahora o nunca

Cuando estás en un país completamente distinto te van a pasar muchísimas cosas inesperadas. Te ofrecen ser modelo para promocionar zumos, escalas un volcán activo, haces parapente, conoces a un grupo de música famoso del país y te invitan a cantar en el escenario de un bar, duermes en medio de la selva y en casas de extraños, conduces una moto por esas carreteras, te invitan a bodas, MUCHAS BODAS y un sinfín de casos que ni te imaginas. Estás allí durante poco tiempo y dices a todo que sí. Después te das cuenta que has vivido más en este tiempo que en 5 años en tu país.

6. Okay, me faltan más de 100 países, cuál es el siguiente?

Después una experiencia como esta tus prioridades cambian, antes mirabas cuando será el próximo festival de música, ahora miras vuelos por el mundo y no te da miedo nada. ¿India? ¿Por qué no? ¿Qué tal Colombia? ¿O África? Tu aventura acaba de empezar, pero enserio no te cortes. Vas a gastarte el dinero en aviones para poner cuantos más sellos posibles en tu pasaporte, será tu nueva adición. Y vas a viajar diferente, sin planes, que pase lo que tenga que pasar y creeme, te va a pasar de todo y te va a encantar. No vas a ver las cosas que te pasen como problemas sino como aprendizajes. Vas a cambiar en cada viaje que hagas porque te vas a llevar una parte de esa cultura contigo cuando dejas el país y a la vez dejas una parte de ti allí que va a crear un impacto que no te puedes ni imaginar.

No puedo decirte que hacer con tu vida pero si que te voy a recomendar que te vayas, vete lejos, a un lugar poco conocido y que este todo por conocer. Vas a llorar algun dia, a preguntarte qué haces allí, en qué momento decidiste comprarte los billetes ¡que locura! Y sí,lo es!, pero enhorabuena, estás viviendo y las historias que vas a crear y tener te aseguro que no tienen precio.

The 5 myths about AIESEC practices?

• I’m only going to improve my English in an English-speaking country

FALSE . If you do an internship in Poland, Romania or Brazil, you will most likely not speak Polish, Romanian or Portuguese, so not only at work but also in your day to day you will have to speak in English, you will also have the possibility to learn a new language. If your internship is in a Spanish-speaking country, remember that all AIESEC programs are international and multicultural, which means that it does not matter where you will be in contact with more than another culture and people from other countries who speak languages ​​other than yours, so you will speak English with them.

• Only Global Talent can provide me with the professional experience I need

FALSE . Global Talent is a great opportunity to develop your professional career, but it is not the only program. The Global Entrepreneur program can also help you, it differs from Global Talent by being internships in start-ups, working in a newly created company you can learn a lot in a short time, you will not only surround yourself with an entrepreneurial, innovative and young environment. In addition, the Global Entrepreneur program is ideal for all those who want to start their professional career, because you will discover that you are good at it and what you are really passionate about.

• I need to be a graduate in order to participate

IT DEPENDS . It depends on the opportunity and the country, but in general it is not necessary to be a graduate to be able to live an internship experience, but to be or have studied at the university. For Global Entrepreneur internships it is not necessary to be a graduate, the case of Global Talent is different, it will always depend on the offer and what the company is looking for.

• I can go on internships in 128 countries

FALSE . AIESEC is present in 128 countries and territories, but the internship program is not implemented in all of them. In others, the supply is very scarce compared to its demand, so the requirements are very high like the competition and have long selection processes, which makes it very difficult if not impossible to be selected. On the contrary, there are countries with a much greater offer and with which AIESEC Spain has a very good relationship, applying to these countries not only are you more likely to be selected but the process will be much faster, and in a few weeks you will have your chance.

• I need to have 2 years of experience to be able to do an internship with AIESEC

FALSE . There is no minimum experience to be able to live an internship experience with AIESEC, either from the Global Talent or Global Entrepreneur program. For the Global Talent program it is advisable to have previous experience in the field in which it is being applied, sometimes it is a requirement but it always depends on the requirements of each opportunity. Global Entrepreneur is designed to give you that first professional experience, so if you want to start your professional career, it may be your program, as it will help you learn about your passions.

• I can only participate in one AIESEC program

FAKE. You can live as many experiences with AIESEC as you want, whether it is Global Volunteer, Global Entrepreneur or Global Talent while you are between 18 and 30 years old and with a maximum of 36 months in total . You can only do one program at a time, but this does not prevent you from repeating once your experience is over!

La entrada 5 Mitos sobre las prácticas de AIESEC se publicó primero en AIESEC in Spain.

Mi nombre es Mario Mayora Sánchez y tengo 25 años.  Gracias a la mediación de AIESEC empecé a trabajar desde septiembre del año pasado en una pequeña ciudad polaca de nombre Kluczbork. En esta ciudad, que al ser pequeña es casi desconocida en el extranjero (y además por tener un nombre casi impronunciable para hispanohablantes)es donde se encuentra la empresa donde trabajo. La empresa, de un tamaño considerable (200 empleados) fabrica ropa de trabajo y exporta el género a varios países europeos. Yo soy el representante de ventas para España, donde tienen un mercado pequeño pero creciente.

Como mis estudios no están relacionados con el sector en el que estoy trabajando y además mi experiencia laboral era escasa al llegar, tuve que esforzarme por aprender desde un principio, entre otras cosas:  estudiar el género para conocerlo al dedillo (todo representante de ventas tiene que saber qué vende) leer sobre técnicas de venta y de trato al cliente, aprender a utilizar las aplicaciones digitales que ayudan a nuestro desempeño, esforzarme en mi inglés para tratar con mis compañeros (y para algunos, el polaco) o tener una disciplina de trabajo que en la universidad no se enseña.  La inexperiencia costó ciertos errores al principio, no graves, si bien ahora puedo afirmar sin dudas que en este tiempo ha mejorado mucho. 

Kluczbork es una pequeña ciudad residencial de 25.000 habitantes, sin turismo, sin universidad y a 50 km del centro urbano importante más cercano. Residir en un sitio así tiene evidentes desventajas frente a las grandes ciudades: poca gente joven, menos ” movimiento” en general (en invierno por la tarde parece una ciudad fantasma) y, algo muy importante, que muchos residentes no hablan inglés… esta circunstancia hizo mis inicios bastante complicados, al no poder comunicarme con casi nadie en la vida cotidiana -y que además el polaco es una lengua extremadamente difícil-  

Pero tiene también cosas buenas: más tranquilidad, todo lo necesario para la vida está cerca y, además, algo que a mí personalmente me encanta, y es que vivir aquí es vivir en la auténtica Polonia. En cualquier ciudad grande de Polonia, sobre todo Cracovia o Breslavia que tan de moda están para estudiantes y gente joven en general, todo extranjero pasa ya desapercibido. No ocurre lo mismo en Kluczbork, donde soy la nota exótica (no exagero al decirlo) y me consideran alguien especial. Ahora tengo mucha gente que me aprecia, en gran medida, supongo, porque desde el primer momento respeté la cultura y tradiciones nacionales de los polacos , y también porque me esforcé por aprender el idioma, aunque sea a nivel básico. Lo valoran muchísimo y a cambio muchos te tratarán como a un amigo de toda la vida.

Para concluir estas breves líneas, diré que no me arrepiento lo más mínimo de haber escogido este rumbo, a pesar de no pocos problemas que he tenido. Gracias a AIESEC he comenzado a forjar mi vida laboral. Hasta el momento era un ni-ni de libro, sin trabajar y ni siquiera estudiar durante un largo tiempo. Cómodo, sin sobresaltos, sí, pero también sin ambiciones, mientras los meses y los años pasan sin novedad.  Llega un momento en el que hay que coger el toro por los cuernos, echarle valor y salir al campo de batalla que es la vida.

Al fin y al cabo, a día de hoy la tecnología nos ofrece innumerables ventajas que nuestros abuelos no podrían ni haber soñado en sus días, y gran parte de ellos también viajaron para prosperar, con final feliz en la mayoría. En el año 2017 no es ningún drama separarse de los tuyos, siempre podrás volver.

What kind of leaders do you want to be?

Leadership has traditionally been associated with “power and” management. There are different definitions of the term “leadership” and therefore a certain controversy at the theoretical level about what this concept means. This has given rise to an emerging culture of training and promotion of leaders, which tend to develop in various styles.

In fact, an economy has been generated that revolves around this idea. From training schools of “desirable qualities” to universities whose slogan refers to the training of “professional leaders”, which also highlights various publications and books that try to help find the basic keys to be a great leader. However, we will say that true leadership is not found or achieved through books or training courses. The basic key to a good leader is to be “authentic”, that is, to be yourself.

It is true that the world is constantly changing and that various social, technological, political and cultural advances mean that leadership also needs to adapt. Hence the importance of fostering leadership qualities and skills in the new generations so that they can face the challenges of the globalized world. Along with many other social actors and analysts, at AIESEC we consider that some of the most important characteristics of the leaders of the future are:

• Critical thinking and problem solving

Leadership is no longer a management tool, young people define it as a behavior, an attitude or a way of being able to create a positive impact in their environment . Young people want to develop personally, socially and professionally to achieve a maximum exploration of themselves and the environment around them. Share knowledge and skills for joint development with others. As Emilio Froján, former director of institutional relations at AIESEC, commented, “young people are aware that their value in society is related to the positive impact they create on their environment”.

The development of a global understanding, acquiring  intercultural skills , learning new languages, providing solutions to the problems of global society. In fact, many young people look for experiences abroad, volunteering or professional internships when they finish their university studies.

This is how AIESE C has determined a  youth leadership model ( LDM ,  Leadership Development Model ) from which thousands of young people benefit each year. This model takes into account the  concerns, challenges and aspirations of young people  from a  global perspective,  since it is intended to create a leadership model that any young person in the world can live and share wherever they are.

For all the above, AIESEC promotes the activation of youth leadership through different programs with foreign companies or international volunteers, with the aim that each participant creates a positive impact on society and can  inspire others  to also have a positive impact. in your enviroment.

The key to progress is found in the construction of favorable environments for young people, it is therefore necessary to join forces between companies, institutions and the educational community. A menudo los jóvenes nos preguntamos qué podemos hacer nosotros para contribuir a cambiar las cosas. Desde AIESEC damos la oportunidad a los jóvenes de ver el mundo, porque cuando lo vemos podemos empezar a entenderlo y cuando lo entendamos podremos empezar a cambiarlo. Este verano AIESEC en España quiere contribuir al Objetivo de Desarrollo Sostenible numero 4 – una Educación de Calidad, ofreciendo la oportunidad de participar en proyectos sociales internacionales para la mejora de la educación en los países donde más se necesita. Además, este tipo de experiencias, proporcionan a los jóvenes el desarrollo personal y profesional de habilidades que no siempre se desarrollan dentro de nuestro sistema educativo. En concreto, experiencias que nos ayudan a entender el mundo a nuestro alrededor y nuestra capacidad para marcar una diferencia, al mismo tiempo que nos hacen entendernos a nosotros mismos, cuales son nuestros valores, y que es lo que es lo que realmente nos gusta hacer. Queremos desarrollar jóvenes emprendedores y responsables capaces de arriesgar y jóvenes que son capaces de transmitir en diferentes escenarios para inspirar a más gente.

Todo ello a través de proyectos sociales de educación en Perú, India, Croacia, Polonia, Brasil, Rumanía, Tailandia y muchos destinos más, donde nuestra organización está presente. Proyectos en los que tomarás un rol de responsabilidad, trabajarás en equipos multiculturales y entrarás en contacto con diferentes instituciones, colegios u organizaciones internacionales. Gestión de proyectos, cooperación y desarrollo o dar clases de idiomas son algunas de las opciones.

Al mismo tiempo que vives una experiencia de 6 semanas con jóvenes de todo el mundo y descubres una nueva cultura, darás la oportunidad a otros de ver que ellos también pueden crear un impacto.
